OK friends, I am back. I apologize for being off the net for the last couple of years (of course I just got older) but I have been doing a little travel and wrote some memoirs of my childhood and family for my kids. Well a lot has happened in 2022 and here are my thoughts.

First up is, again, abortion. This one really confuses me. The Supreme Courts of the US decides that the abortion debate is a state matter and not a federal matter. OK, I got it. I have, unlike most, read the Constitution. However all these folks who are pro-death, I mean pro-woman’s rights, become incensed. They vote in a federal election for pro-abortion candidates. This 30 year old pundit on TV claims her INFANT daughter has lost rights due to the Supreme Courts decisions on abortion – and she lives in New York! Seems to me you should simply change the focus to the state and local level. Where I live my fourteen year old grand daughter can get an abortion without her parents’ knowledge or consent but she can’t get an appendectomy or even a cavity filled without her parents’ consent.

Here is the real crux to the debate which continues to make abortion such an emotional topic: LIMITS. No one wants to talk about limits. I am pro-life. But I understand there are many that don’t share my beliefs. So, I ask simply that abortion not be allowed after 12 weeks and tax payer money not be used to pay for an abortion (which makes me an accessory). You will answer to your God and I will answer to mine. Now, if you disagree let’s talk and reach a compromise. But if you allow abortion one minute before birth why not one minute after birth? One month before birth why not one month after birth?

All this emotion does not help solve the issue. I’m an old guy and I don’t get it.

Next up – democracy. Man, how many TV shows were dedicated to “attacks” on our democracy? This group, and that group, were all blamed for attacking democracy. A riot in Washington DC was described as an attack on our democracy. Well, I am really confused. You see, the Constitution defines a system of government as well as providing limits to that government. We don’t have – get ready – a democracy. We have a constitutional republic. When old Ben (as in Ben Franklin) was asked about what kind of government was being delivered after the Constitution convention he replied “A republic , madam. If you can keep it.” Can a riot on a building in Washington DC (the same one destroyed during the War of 1812) really be a threat to our Republic? I’m and old guy and I don’t get it.

I will end this blog here. I try to keep these short so some folks will read them. More issues will be discussed real soon. Thanks readers! I appreciate your opinions and responses -even those that disagree with me. At least there are those out there thinking. But then again, I’m an old guy and I don’t get it.
