Federal Shutdown

OK, here is one that really baffles me. Why is the Federal Government shut down? Why is one political party causing this? The same party that has voted many times for CRs to keep the Federal Government running.

First a reminder: 85% of the Federal Government is open. It is 15% (discretionary) that is closed.

The Democrats (the party keeping the Government closed) claim that they a re preventing some healthcare price increase from happening. This affects only 8% of the population. We all suffer for the 8%. The same Democrats want to provide Illegal Aliens FREE healthcare. I wish I had free healthcare.

So, about ten years ago President Obama and the Democrats passed what is known as Obama Care and it was supposed to make healthcare affordable for all Americans. Hurray! The Democrat Speaker of the House jammed it through telling Congress they didn’t need to read the bill just pass it. And they did. And co-pays immediately jumped and insurance companies were happy to take the Federal $$$$$. And only 8% of Americans use Obama Care.

Then in 2023 President Biden and the Democrats, to fight the Covid pandemic and EMERGENCY, passed a subsidy to Obama Care that was only supposed to last two years, They figured they they could prop up Obama Care as well as it was a failing. Insurance companies got happier.

This subsidy was what I call a gimmy. People take Federal tax dollars and they are happy. They then rely on those $$$ and demand those dollars every year – “give me” (hence gimmy). So to get votes Congress continues the gimmy.

The pandemic and emergency are over. So now the Republicans want to stop the subsidy. It was supposed to stop after TWO years. But the Dems want those gimmy votes so they say they are shutting down the government for that 8% affected. Screw the 92%. But try to fool the 92% they are affected.

So what about the Illegal Aliens? Well that subsidy includes Medicaid! So States use less of their Medicaid money and more of the Federal money. This allows States to fund Illegal Alien Healthcare. Talk about money laundering.

There is one last reason the Dems are keeping the Federal Government closed – they hate Trump and Republicans and the horses they rode in on. Their dislike for MAGA is so great they put their hate above country. After all, their party includes those left wing nuts who are becoming the base of the party and those nuts hate America and Trump. We call this political power. And Dems love power.

So the government stays closed. One side says open the government using the same funding as last year (clean CR or Continuing Resolution) and then let’s talk about subsidies. The other side says Up With Illegal Aliens and Down with Trump and America be hanged we want the power.

That’s how I see it. But then again I’m an old guy and I don’t get it……..
