I have avoided this topic because family members fear retribution – social retribution (trust me, you don’t want to take any of my kids on physically). But I just don’t get why we keep making this topic confusing.

Look, I grew up in the Southwest. I had many Latino/Hispanic/ whatever the politically correct term is today friends. The thing is – they were immigrants. They were legal. So we were friends without issues and prejudice. BTW: No gangs, no violence.

But today is another matter. Today it seems that every person is considered an immigrant. So I will set the record straight.

If you come to the US on a Visa or “Green Card” or work permit – welcome. If you are born here in the US you are a citizen – period. You are here LEGALLY. If you become a US citizen I will be proud to have you. You are entitled to all rights and privileges in our Constitution.

But if you sneak in here and enter the US illegally you ARE NOT AN IMMIGRANT. You are an ILLEGAL ALIEN. You are not a US citizen. You are a criminal that has broken our laws. You are not entitled to rights and privileges – and certainly NO public assistance. My public assistance $$ are meant for Americans. Sorry. I do feel for you. If you are provided assistance from private funds – OK. But the only public entitlement you are owed is a one-way ticket home courtesy of ICE.

Simple. There are natural and naturalized citizens and then persons here legally. These persons here legally are immigrants. Those not here legally are NOT immigrants. Let’s stop the confusion and deal with the problems from a baseline set of definitions. And let’s start being fair to American families that were/are real immigrants.

I’m an old guy and I don’t get it

I just want to focus on the first sentence of this post. While I may not agree with everything you say, I definitely admire your determination to post your opinions. And that’s what you claim they are. Your opinion. You also state that you don’t get it. That begs the question. If you disagree, then why the hell don’t you EXPLAIN why you disagree and help the “Old Guy” “get it.”?

Why? Because no one else can create a more cogent argument than you have. Maybe someone can, but they don’t care enough to do so. Or maybe they just can’t. Regardless, in either case, any “retribution” is stovepiped and self-serving because they are too cowardly to discuss their opinions and counter-points in a public forum.

That’s my two cents. Thank you for providing an opinion that is contrary to the accepted norm. I appreciate any view that challenges my own world view. While it may not change my world view, it always reminds me that I’m not a special f*ing snowflake that holds a monopoly on the way the world should work. And I think that’s a valuable lesson for everyone to learn.
